Meet the Pulley Press Interns
Pulley Press is happy to introduce our interns, Gillian Kimmel, Abigail Boyer, and Joy Koston.
Gillian was born and raised in Washington D.C. and is currently pursuing a B.A. in Literature and Film/Television Studies at The University of Vermont. She has loved reading and writing from a young age, especially enjoying coming of age poetry and fiction set in rural spaces. A couple of her favorite books are Electric Arches by Eve Ewing and The Carrying by Ada Limón. Two of her stories were published on Vermont public radio, and a poem and painting of hers was included in The Gist, UVM’s literary magazine. Gillian is now working as our Marketing Intern this Summer, helping to run Pulley’s social media accounts and spread the word about our work in rural America.
Abigail is a third-year student at the University of Washington pursuing a double major in English and Spanish. She was raised in Gainesville, Georgia, a beloved town that’s unfortunately infamous for its status as the (supposed) chicken processing capital of the world. Their interests include magical realism set in the south, queer futurity in fantasy novels, and any kind of writing that feels more hopeful than not. Abigail is the creator of the 2022 Audio Verse Award-winning audio drama Back Again, Back Again, and its prequel, Sword and Spinner. They also work as a journalist for the UW Daily, where they write about music, Mary Oliver, and murders of crows.
Joy is a junior at the University of Washington's Foster School of Business, studying Entrepreneurship and Linguistics. She has been writing poetry since middle school and recently had her piece, "Worm Words," published in the student literary journal Bricolage. In addition, she contributes bimonthly articles to the Washington chapter of the online magazine Her Campus. In her free time, Joy is an avid reader, traveler, and lover of quiet places. Both her parents come from rural backgrounds; her mother grew up with seven sisters in a cabin in Libby, Montana, a story Joy hopes to write someday. Raised in Washington, the Pacific Northwest and all its evergreen eccentricities are her biggest inspiration.
